INVITATION TO JOIN MVCA

The Malaysian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (MVCA), formed in 1995, comprises leading and active players in the private equity, direct investment and venture capital industry. Its mission is to promote and develop the venture capital and private equity industry in Malaysia, and advocates policies that enhance the environment for entrepreneurial and venture capital/private equity activities. It serves as the authorized platform for members to express their views to policy makers in resolving issues and removing obstacles that impede the growth of the venture capital and private equity industry.

MVCA also acts as the Secretariat to the Asia Pacific Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (APVCA), which provides a platform for high-level discussion, strategic linkages in business partnership and networking amongst regional private equity and venture capital associations within the Asia Pacific rim.

Since inception, members have enjoyed the following benefits:

• new business venture opportunities;
• business networking opportunities and strategic linkages to business partnerships;
• discounted rates for training events organized by the Association;
  
• Wider business network and new business venture opportunities.
• Access to formal and up-to-date information on development of Malaysia venture capital and other related industry with reference to guidelines and new policies.
  

Members have also benefited from the regular dialogues held between MVCA and various regulatory agencies, and some of the achievements to date are:

• tax exemption for venture capital management companies on income received from profit sharing agreements;
  
• consultation on the guidelines on the registration of VCs with the Securities commission;
• outsourcing of funds from the Government thereby further promoting the development of private venture capital companies;
  
• inclusion in committees on the evaluation for grant applications from the government;
  
• CPE-accreditation of its training events by the Securities Industry Development Centre (SIDC) of the SC. MVCA members who are SC license-holders have the additional benefit of the CPE entitlement;
• the establishment of the Malaysian Venture Capital Development Council (MVCDC) under the purview of the Securities Commission (SC). The Council is entrusted to oversee the efficient and effective development of the venture capital industry.

The MVCA seeks the support of industry players to ensure that the industry is well represented and speaks with a unified voice and as such, we wish to invite your esteemed organization to become a member of the MVCA.

TYPES OF MEMBERSHIP

Ordinary Membership

This membership is open exclusively to institutions and corporations that are primarily engaged in:

1. The management and/or investment of equity or quasi-equity financing of business enterprises principally for the start-up and/or development of small and medium sized enterprises that have significant growth potential in terms of products, technology, business concepts and services;
2. Activities where the main objective is medium to long term capital gains to remunerate risks; and 
3. Activities pursuant to which such institutions or corporations can provide value-added support to investee companies.

Associate Membership

Associate membership is open to:

1. Individuals (being Malaysian citizens, permanent residents or non-residents); or
2. Corporations (incorporated within or outside Malaysia) including but not limited to banks, development capital organisations, consultants, financial advisers and stockbrokers, pension funds, insurance companies and development organisations.

*   The Subscription fee will be calculated on a pro-rated basis. For example, if application is made and approved in June, the Subscription fee for Ordinary Membership would be RM 1,500.00 and total fee payable is RM 6,500.00. Please note that payment is to be made ONLY after determination is made by MVCA on eligibility of applicant for Ordinary or Associate membership.
